[Blog Tour] Tortured Soul

Displaying ts2.png
Tortured Soul (Mercy's Angels, #3)
Synopsis
Emily Donovan didn't know love, she didn't know gentle and her future wasn't hers to own. Because HE owned her. There is only so much one soul can take before it is broken beyond repair and she had reached that milestone long ago.
Braiden Montgomery had secrets, secrets that would see a special place in hell reserved just for him. He was trying to make amends, trying to find his own form of redemption when a waif of a girl with jet black hair and pale blue eyes seized his heart.
Emily's soul had been tortured by men like Braiden, so trusting the dark haired Dom would be one of the most difficult things she would ever do. For a man with skills like Braiden, keeping 'Em' safe would be a piece of cake. Bringing her frozen heart back to life might just prove impossible though.

REVIEW
I never know where to start when I’m writing a review. Sometimes it makes me question my aspiration of one day writing a story that I haven’t quite fully figured out in my mind yet. As I sit back and read these wonderous novels written by so many of the greatest authors, I think I can’t do this… Let me leave it to the superbly talented writers. Kirsty – you blow my mind each and every time. This is the 4th book of yours that I have read, and I still can’t wrap my head around how amazing you are.  I started with Saving Ella, progressed to Breeze of Life, moved on to Fighting Back, and now Tortured Soul. Yes Ma’am, you’ve got this bitch on lock. I can’t thank you enough for being so utterly amazing and sharing your talent with the world. Your stories are truly inspiring, and the message is loud and clear. I am a woman, hear me ROAR. It’s so easy to give up, but if you fight, stay strong, and open yourself to others – you WILL be better. You WILL prosper. Demons will always stay with you, but reading these intense novels has made me realize more so than I already had, that you need to stand up for yourself, and if you need help… there is no shame in getting some. Pride is just a feeling, it can be broken, and then overcome. I really hope that when people read Kirsty’s novels they see the strong independent women with stories of inspiration that will stay with you forever.

Tortured Soul captivates you from the beginning. Even though it’s book 3 in the Mercy’s Angels series, it CAN be read as a standalone. Personally, I don’t recommend it. I think that you should read all of the books in the order in which they were published. In Saving Ella, you meet Ella and Jaxon. Who will forever be one of my favorite snarky couples of all time. Then you meet Charlie and Rebecca in Fighting Back. In this series, every book gives you a little more about the characters, and yes – they intertwine beautifully.  I love when you get to see a small glimpse into the future of past characters. Tortured Soul is where you get to meet Emily and Braiden.

"Someone was in here, but I no longer knew who. The girl inside was broken, damaged beyond repair."

Emily is Rebecca’s little sister, so you get to see a little bit more of Rebecca & Charlie in this novel. (Score!) I think Charlie is my favorite… but then I think about Jaxon. Of course, now I’m thinking about Braiden. My, oh my. That man is some kind of candy that you just need to taste.  Christian Grey? I’m sorry who is that again? I think you meant Braiden Montgomery. If you didn’t like 50 Shades of Grey, don’t worry… you’ll love this! If you DID like FSoG, you’ll love this too!!  It’s on the lighter side, but still intense.  Anyways – I freaking loved this couple. Em and Braiden gave me some serious feels for them. Emily being captured and forced into the Dom/Sub world for 8 years wreaked havoc on her.  In order to find herself again, she must put her trust in someone other than herself. Braiden’s sexy ass is just the one to show her how to trust again. In fact, he demands it.

"I don't want what other women can give me, Em. I want you, just as you are. Scars, tears, anger, nightmares, fears, I want it all. I need you, Em, and I think you need me, too. I don't know if now is the right time or not, but I'll be damned if I can stay away."

Tortured soul takes you on the journey of re-self-discovery.   Losing yourself, fighting back, giving up, and regaining your voice is just a smidgeon of the things Emily has to go through.  While reading this book you really get an inner perspective on what it’s like to be held against your will, forgetting who you are, and becoming someone you don’t know.

I can’t even imagine the research and horrifying things Kirsty went through to have this book so dedicated to the truth behind human sex trafficking.  I mean honestly, I only know what I see online or in the papers / TV.  Emily is so relatable that you think you’re there with her. The struggles and strife she goes through is just unfathomable.  The trauma that one experiences while being held in captivity is overwhelming and just breaks my heart to think about it. This novel shows you the lasting effects of mental abuse, along with physical abuse.

Although this is an intense read, about subjects that (I’m hoping) don’t hit close to home, there is a lot of witty banter between characters, charged up sexual tension, angst, lots of love, and plain old hilarity.  In fact, I reached a point in the book, where I literally snorted. Not only did I find this amusing, but the fact that someone else actually said it… let alone wrote it down! PRICELESS!!!

“Braiden then proceeded to tell me about his teenage stepsisters, his love of fast cars, and his dislike of beans and corn.
“You don’t like corn?” I asked, amazed. Who doesn’t like corn? He nodded as he sat back, his meal complete, a satisfied smile on his face.”

So if you have not read this novel yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? Release day!? Well, than that’s an acceptable answer. If you’re not waiting for release day….. and you’re not reading this yet, or at least one of the Mercy Angels’ books, we can’t be friends anymore. I’m sorry – but this is how I feel. Love me, love my books.  Point being, Go. Right Meow. One-Click. Cherish Kirsty Dallas’ words as I do, I’m telling you… you’ll be hooked.

Kirsty, I love love love you. As always, I enjoyed your words immensely. I can’t wait for your next novel, regardless of when/what it may be.  I just hope it’s sooner than later! Don’t make me beg… because I will. If I ever get the chance to go to Australia, I will find you… and plant a big fat kiss on your face! Ok, probably not – because I’ll be too busy fangirling and being a shy little girl to put my big girl panties on and talk to you. There just may be a lot of “Eep!” “Eek!”  shrieks, along with jumping around, nervous laughter, and possible crying. You have been warned.

Stalk one of my favorite Aussies!
Kirsty Dallas
I'm just a little Aussie girl with a big imagination, so much to write and so little time to do it. When I'm not writing (or reading) I am kept smiling and sane (for the most part) by my 5 year old daughter. She is the light in my world. I have a wonderfully supportive family who keep me completely grounded. Trust me, they will never let any success go to my head!! And I love them for it. I enjoy ice cold ciders, barbeques, music and art. I hate cooking, in fact I think I have major kitchen allergies. My feet rarely grace anything other than flip-flops and even in the middle of a hot Aussie summer, I love my jeans!!! To sum me up in a few words (and you know how hard just a few words is for an author) ~ easy going, laid back, dreamy and passionate.

I hope you all love reading my novels as much as I love writing them.

[Waiting On Wednesday] & Breaking News!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The spine
which showcases our most anticipated upcoming reads.

Black-Ice.jpg
Expected Publication: October 7th, 2014

Black Ice is a dark, romantic thriller instead of Fitzpatrick’s typical paranormal novel. It follows Britt Phieffer, who convinces her best friend to hike the Grand Tetons with her. After a freak storm strands the girls in the woods, they meet Shaun and Mason, two fugitives who take the girls hostage.
Sometimes danger is hard to see... until it’s too late.

Britt Pfeiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems in the mountains, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

BLACK ICE is New York Times bestselling author Becca Fitzpatrick’s riveting romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming. Falling in love should never be this dangerous…
HOW freaking good does this sound!? I'm in complete awe. I mean I loved the Hush Hush saga. This just blows my mind. I saw this, and I totally had to post it!!! -B

Saw some really exciting news today, HAD TO SHARE!!!!!

We’ve got exciting news for Becca Fitzpatrick fans! Her next novel, Black Ice, doesn’t hit shelves until Oct. 7, but here’s an exclusive first look at the cover (above). “The cover captures not only the ruthless setting, but the characters as well,” Fitzpatrick told EW in an exclusive statement. “Under the winter layers, we catch a glimpse of an irresistible bad boy—the kind I love writing so much.”
But there’s more news on the horizon...
WHAT!?!
We can exclusively announce Fitzpatrick’s next book: Sapphire Skies, a new standalone thriller, will be published by Simon & Schuster in fall 2015. Here’s the official description: “In Sapphire Skies, 17-year-old Stella Gordon lives with her mother in a lovely country manor near Philadelphia’s ‘old money’ Main Line. But one fateful night, Stella’s life is shattered by a single gunshot. Stella witnesses a crime, forcing her into the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program to testify against the perpetrator—a crime boss named Danny Bolando. Stella is whisked away to the sleepy town of Thunder Basin, Nebraska, and forced to start life over as someone else. She soon meets Chet Falconer, her boyishly handsome ranch hand neighbor, who swears he’s going to have her wearing cowgirl boots and riding horses before the summer’s over. While Chet’s flirting is a welcome distraction from her miserable plight, Stella is most certainly not into cowboys, and she lets him know it. But deep down, and against her better judgment, Stella can’t help but feel she’s falling under Chet’s spell. Unfortunately, she also has to deal with Dusty Falconer, Chet’s hotheaded and rule-breaking younger brother whom Stella feels an unwanted but irresistible attraction to. As the hot Nebraskan summer wears on, Stella tries to settle into her new life. But when she receives a threatening message on her doorstep, she fears she might never outrun her past. Is it possible she’s not as safe in small town Nebraska as the authorities would have her believe?”

Excerpt:

Cuba’s POV

Not exactly a meet-cute…
The room closed in, making me sweat. I hadn’t talked to her in over a year, and now here we were, face-to-face. Two ex-lovers who hated each other.
I had to get away from her.
Dovey tilted her head as I stood, giving me a scathing glare. “Leaving so soon? Yeah, go ahead, cut and run. Coward.”
I ignored her and tried to get Weinstein’s attention, to let her know she could flunk me for all I cared.
“Before you go, tell me one thing, and I’ll make sure we aren’t partners in this class. You’ll be free of me,” she said.
“What?” I asked, my voice going all raspy, blocking all the words I wanted to say. They weren’t things she ever needed to hear.
“Why so cruel to me? You aren’t to the other girls you date and dump. Why single me out?”
I seethed. “And it didn’t take you long to find someone else, now did it? How is Spider? Does he get you hot like I did?”
She smirked. “He’s fine. He thinks I hung the moon. He thinks you’re an ass. I agree.”
I tightened my fists and pressed them against my thighs, swearing to myself I wasn’t responding to her bait. I swore. She was a dangerous game I didn’t need to play.
Suddenly, her face fell. Was she recalling the last time we were together? Was she remembering how I used to…
“I trusted you,” she whispered, all her anger seeming to be gone. The unsteadiness of her voice undid me, sent me right over the edge of that precarious cliff I’d been hanging on to by the skin of my teeth.
Yeah, she hadn’t been the only one who’d trusted me. I’d ruined them all. Every last one. Dark thoughts assaulted me, of the blood I had on my hands.
Snap! My pencil broke and small pieces flew across my desk and into the empty space between us.
I wanted to pummel my desk until my fists bled. I wanted to punch a hole through the wall, the floor, my face.
Everything was my fault. Just mine.
She’d been collateral damage, the kind that breaks everyone involved. And I was sorry for it, but sometimes you do what hurts because it’s for the best.
But she was my kryptonite, leaving me no option but to hurt her. Again.
I didn’t think about my cruel words, I just said them. “You were a curiosity, Dovey. You weren’t the usual BA girl, and I wanted a taste. That’s all. I moved on when it got boring. Get over it.”

Author Bio:

Ilsa Madden-Mills is a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend, and a teacher. When all that is done, she writes. Obsessively.
She spent several years teaching high school English, but now hangs out at home with two small kids, a neurotic cat, and her Viking husband. She collects magnets and rarely cooks except to bake her own pretzels.
When she’s not typing away at a story, you can find her drinking too much Diet Coke, jamming out to Pink, or checking on her carefully maintained chocolate stash.
She loves to hear from fans and fellow authors.

SYNOPSIS
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts in Fallen Too Far.

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

REVIEW

"...I realized I didn't want to run. I wanted to stay. I just needed the guts to do it. You're worth fighting demons for."

Damn it. I can’t even deal with the Rosemary Beach novels. I’m so invested in the characters now. I mean who doesn’t already love Rush and Blaire, Woods and Della, but Grant and Harlow? Gahhh. LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  Abbi Glines, you rock my socks off. Every. Single. Time.  I knew going into this book that I would adore it, because I adore Ms. Glines.

I’m not sure how I can even write this without ranting and raving. Not to mention blathering on and on about how fucking perfect Grant is or how big of a sweetheart Harlow is. So, here I go – ranting, raving, blathering, and talking nonsense that makes complete sense to me! Jesus, my mind is in such a whirlwind I just don’t even know where to start. Hopefully by the time I’m done writing this review I can edit it into some sort of …orderly conduct. (yeah right!)

"...all I could think was what if I loved someone that much and I lost them? How could I live? ... I decided I never wanted to be that vulnerable. I never wanted to love someone that much. I never wanted to face losing the one person that owns me."

*Just to warn you, if you haven’t read the Fallen Too Far series, and you’d like to – Read that BEFORE you read this.* There are some spoiler contents as far as the Rush & Blaire relations department go.  Don’t get me wrong – you don’t have to. You can definitely read this as a standalone novel, but like I said… if you haven’t read it and you plan on reading it – my advice would be to do so first.

If you have read the other series, than we all know and loathe Nan. Well, at least I do. She’s nothing but problems to the favorite men in my Rosemary Beach novels! Although, as much as I loathe her… I do have a small (almost miniscule) soft spot for her. (Damn you Abbi!) I can’t help but feel for her, even if she puts herself in half the situations that she gets herself into.  You get to brush up a little on Rush and Blaire’s relationship a little as they make a couple cameo appearances in this novel as well. However – the main focus is the story of Grant sex-me-anywhere Carter, and Harlow adorable-as-a-kitten Manning. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that ever so sexy drawl of the cowboy brother Mase.

One of the main things that I love about these books that Abbi writes in the Rosemary Beach novels, is that they aren’t directly about the rock stars themselves. Yes, they have to do a little with a rock band and their kin, but it’s focused on the kin, and the issues they have from being a rock stars heir. I tell you, Ms. Glines definitely has a knack for drama, secrets, sexy as hell men, and throwing you for loops you just didn’t see coming.

Take A Chance will have you cursing, smiling, laughing, tearing, lusting, and wanting more. The sexy time scenes make all the drama seem like nothing but foreplay for the characters as they not only find each other, but figure out themselves as well.  The angst of the budding relationship between Grant and Harlow pretty much killed me throughout the entire book.  In the beginning you get a small debriefing on Harlow’s past, but there was a moment of complete and utter shock when I found out the secrets being kept.

I immensely enjoyed this novel and I feel extremely privileged to have read this before publication. Big thanks to Atria & Abbi for that opportunity!!!  I highly recommend this book to Abbi Glines fans everywhere. If you’re not an Abbi Glines groupie like the rest of us, This is definitely a good book to start with. I honestly hope everyone will Take A Chance on this because it’s most definitely worth it. Did you see the pun there? Haha. I had to. But seriously – Read this. Read this Right now.

Oh, and Abbi….

[Blog Tour] Just Shoot Me

Just Shoot Me (Cowboy Way, #1) a new series by Becky McGraw, author of the Texas Trouble Series

Synopsis:

Tina Montgomery needs to find her Texas Tomcat. Her promotion and livelihood depend on it. That promotion could mean a new life for her, her sister and her niece. It's a big risk however, because if she fails in her bid to head up a new menswear line at her company, she could lose everything. That's why finding the perfect model to represent the line has become her sole focus. At the point of thinking she would ...never find that man, one with both experience and attitude that shows in his face and eyes, she meets Dean Dixon. His gorgeous eyes tell a story she definitely wants to hear and the man has more attitude than any she’s ever met. Physically he's perfect for the job. But that attitude she thought she wanted in her cowboy quickly becomes her biggest downfall when she tries to convince the sexy, but hard-hearted rancher to help her.

Dean Dixon is done with women. His cheating ex-wife has shown him just how untrustworthy women are. He has a ranch to run, and a son who might not be his to raise alone. That's more than enough for any man to handle without dealing with his sister-in-law’s friend who is determined to convince him to model for her company. He has seen what that industry has done to his brother. Dean is a rancher, not a model, and he isn't about to abandon his family or fall into the same trap his brother had. He stands his ground, until his sister-in-law tells him why Tina needs the promotion she’s wanting so badly, and asks for his help. Hope had bailed him and his family out when they needed her the year prior. How could he refuse to help her now?

Excerpt:

Dean laid the clothes on the vanity, and pulled the jeans off the hanger then unbelted the robe he was wearing and let it drop to the floor. He inspected the jeans and decided they were a little heavy on the fancy stitching on the back pockets, but might be something he wore for special occasions. He surely wouldn’t be working outside in them.

At least they were bootcut and not those damned skinny leg jeans that men were wearing these days. He had no idea how men wore those damned jeans. He’d feel like he was in a sausage casing. One thing was for sure the men that wore those type of jeans like Paulo, didn’t wear cowboy boots with them. Boots would never fit under the tight legs.
Dean put his legs in the jeans then pulled them up. To get them buttoned he had to suck in and lean back against the vanity. Before he zipped them he had to rearrange things to make sure the zipper didn’t catch anything important. God if a man got excited in these jeans, there would definitely be trouble, he thought, as he finally got the zipper up and looked down at himself.

They were too tight, he decided, patting his ass and not feeling an inch of give in the material. He ran his thumb along the waistband and there was no room there either. Surely, that woman Belinda had brought more than one pair. Tina had sent a tailor out Wednesday to take his measurements, but the guy must’ve gotten the numbers wrong. Dean shoved his undershirt into the waistband of the jeans, put on his boots then opened the door. He walked back down the hall to the living room of the bunkhouse. Belinda was talking to Hope and Tina, so he just walked over there.

“These pants are too tight,” Dean complained and all three women swung around to face him. He figured they must’ve realized it too, because as a group they gasped and put their hands to their chests. He even heard a whimper from over by the sofa that had to come from Paulo. “I’m gonna bust out of these if I breath too deeply. Get me another pair,” Dean said shortly.

Tina broke from the others to walk over and slowly circle him, inspecting him like she would a side of beef. That’s exactly what he felt like right then with the petite brunette’s hot eyes on his body. Uncomfortable, Dean shifted his weight from foot to foot.

“They’re perfect,” she said softly, as she stopped to face him.

Her gray eyes made it up as far as his mouth and lingered a second, before her gaze tracked back down his throat, moved slowly over his chest down his legs to his toes. “Perfect,” she repeated. On the return trip up his body, her eyes lingered for a moment at his crotch. That look he’d seen in her eyes the other day when she was moving the car came back. Interest. Desire.

Dean quickly found out that he was right about the lack of stretch in those jeans. Tina might as well have actually touched him there considering his reaction. That thought made him harder. “Get me another pair of damned jeans!” he demanded as he turned away quickly before anyone noticed his problem.

He strode back down the hallway, and slammed the bathroom door behind him. Leaning back against it, he shut his eyes. He’d had a fucking hard on since he met that woman. Her staring at him like that when he hadn’t had sex in three fucking years wasn’t helping his problem. He hadn’t taken the edge off in a long time either.

Why did his damned sex drive have to come out of hibernation now? And why because of a woman he did nothing but argue with? Because even though his mind might resist the idea of being attracted to the tiny spitfire, his body was definitely there.

Big time, he thought looking down at the straining zipper on the jeans.

He kept feeling her soft skin against his palm when he took off her boots, and wondering if the rest of her shapely body was just as warm and silky. Wondered if the tips of her perky breasts were dusky pink or coral colored. And how they would taste. The tip of his tongue tingled, and Dean got so hard, he really did think he might break the zipper out of those jeans.

And there wasn’t a damned thing he could do about it. This photo shoot was about to go to hell in a handbasket. Dean was about to be humiliated too. He knew someone would probably be knocking on that door soon, expecting him to come back out there. When he did, the whole crew was in for a surprise. Unless he did something to fix the situation himself.

Dean unzipped the jeans, and shoved them down his legs, grabbed the hand towel off the rack beside the sink, then shuffled over to sit on edge of the tub. He jerked his underwear down and fisted himself. Sitting sideways he leaned back against the wall, straddled the tub edge and closed his eyes. He gripped his painful erection, and stroked himself, as he pictured Tina Montgomery using that beautiful mouth of hers on him. Dean held back a moan, his breathing hitched, and his heart beat an unsteady rhythm in his chest.

With each stroke, each fantasy he indulged, the tension inside him ratcheted up. Pleasure built, his balls tightened and he moaned, damned close to coming when the bathroom door opened. A soft gasp followed, and his eyes flew open to see the woman he was fantasizing about standing there, looking as embarrassed as he felt right then.

God, he wished someone would just shoot him. Put him out of his misery. His face felt like it was on fire as he threw the hand towel over his lap and sat up.

“Um, I was just coming to see what was taking so long,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She waved her hand, put it to her cheek then shook her head and dragged her eyes toward the toilet. “You just, ah…finish up…and I’ll be out there,” she said without looking at him. Tina crawfished back out of the door and pulled it shut. Dean just sat there with his heart pounding in his ears, more embarrassed than he’d ever been in his life.
