[Blog Tour] Heartstrings

-SYNOPSIS-

Everyone thinks of me as this happy and upbeat person. What they don't know is that I carry a deep, dark secret. Something horrible happened to me a year ago, and I have kept it quiet all this time. I was fine for a while, but somehow it’s chosen this time to come back, and it's eating at me--like a cancer.

I need to tell someone about it, I just don't know how. I'm pushing everyone I love away, including my mom and my best friend Charlie.

Then there is Will. Handsome, sweet Will. We went out on a date a while back, but then the incident happened leaving me crushed and him confused.

How do you tell someone you care about all of your secrets, and will they still want you when the truth comes out?

18071872

  TITLE: Two Roads
  AUTHOR: L.M. Augustine
  GENRE: New Adult
  GOODREADS: http://tiny.cc/vksd2w

  SYNOPSIS
The only person poetry-loving Cali Monroe hates more than herself is Logan Waters, the geeky kid who lives in the dorm building next to hers. Ever since Cali's parents told her she would amount to nothing, she has felt entirely inadequate. Friendless and alone, she takes on the mean girl role in hopes it will make her feel better--and Logan serves as the perfect target. He infuriates her with his obnoxiously long lashes, his all too perfect dimpled smile, and his complete lack of personality outside of his intelligence. It doesn't hurt that he's part of the reason her brother is dead, either. So Cali hates him, and he returns the favor. Thus, their prank-filled, insult-driven rivalry is born, and torturing Logan quickly becomes the highlight of her life. But when Cali's parents set them up on a blind date, she begins to realize Logan might not be as boring as she always thought. He shares her love of poetry, takes a sadistic pleasure in making fun of crepes, and he makes her blush when he calls her smile pretty. And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all…

Two Roads is New Adult Romance about finding love, standing out, and learning to embrace who you are. It contains some language and mild sexual content.

About the Author

Nora and Leo Meet
Leo teaser
“Drop the paint and turn around slowly with your hands in the air.” The loud command was said with a deep voice. “I’ve got a gun, so move nice and slow.”
I bent over and placed the can on the pavement. I started to turn when— “I said put your hands in the air!” he yelled.
I yanked my hands up and eased around to face the owner of the voice.
He was about ten feet away from me, standing six feet and then some. He was missing a shirt but wearing a pair of black athletic shorts and flip-flops. Judging by his disheveled dirty blond hair and bloodthirsty eyes, I’d have to guess this might be the owner of the Escalade.
And I’d just woken him up.
He came closer to me, and my eyes were immediately drawn to his green-and-blue dragon tattoo. Like a giant snake, the scaled body of the dragon wrapped around his forearm and bicep with the neck coming down from his shoulder and the head resting on his broad chest. Red flames poured from its mouth, between laser sharp teeth.
This guy looked medieval.
So, I squinted and pictured him as a rugged Viking, wearing a horned helmet and gripping a spear instead of a gun. Maybe holding a shield instead of his flashlight and definitely wearing some of those laced-up leather boots. The word berserker (from round two of the famous spelling bee) came to mind, and I rolled the syllables around my tongue . . . ber-serk-er. Yep, that was him alright: one pissed off Norse warrior.
I grinned at my amazing analogy because, well, I’d had too much to drink.
“You think this is funny, son?” he snapped.
I shook my head, suddenly aware that some guy was pointing a gun at me.
And he thought I was a boy.

Leo Resists Nora

Fashion portrait of a beautiful young sexy womanAs if he’d made a decision, he pulled me out into the quiet hallway. Once we were alone, he said, “Now, about last night—” he stopped, appearing stuck on what to say.
“Yeah?”
He took two steps away from me, like he needed some space between us, like what he was going to say was difficult. He ran his hand through his hair furiously, pulling on the ends a little. “Nora, look, I think you’re a pretty girl, but there won’t be anything between us.”
My face flushed because I had acted inappropriately last night. Like a slut, really. Yet I didn’t regret it. And then there was my bad list. I wanted him for my meaningless sex. Still.
“Because you think I’m too young.”
“Yes.” He blew out a breath. “I’m sorry if I come across as a prick here, but I don’t want you to get the wrong idea about me. I don’t do serious relationships ever, and you deserve something good, not just a quick fuck.”
I stared at his full lips, not holding back. “I like it when you say ‘fuck.’”

The Kiss in the Library

Noras Bad List“I got one last request, and I’ll never ask again,” Leo said.
“What?” I croaked out.
He set his books on a shelf and then took mine and set them beside his. He tugged me to him until our chests were touching.
“What are you doing?” I mumbled in confusion.
He put his hands on either side of my face and slid them into my hair, letting out a breath as if in relief. “Just saying goodbye, Nora.”
“You’re going to kiss me?” I asked, tears pricking my eyes at the sadness in his face.
“Please, just this last time, Buttercup,” he said.
And with that one word, I was his.
He lowered his head, his gaze holding me captive. When our lips touched, his heated eyes stayed open and mine did, too. My mouth melted into his, moaning as his hot tongue explored the details of my tongue, my teeth, my lips. We started slow but it escalated rapidly, the passion between us burning higher and higher. He owned me with his mouth, and I was lost.
I palmed his ass, grinding myself against him. He hissed at the increased pressure and pushed me back against the sturdy bookshelf, positioning me so his hips fit into my pelvis. I lifted one of my legs, and he caught it and wrapped it around him.
“Say my name,” he muttered gruffly as I sucked hard at his neck. He grunted, and I dug my nails into his back as I kissed my way around his collarbone, sucking another spot.
“Say it, Nora.”
“Leo, Leo, Leo,” I pleaded, arching my back and pushing into him.
He shuddered. “Fucking love that,” he whispered.
He placed his lips back on mine, dominating my mouth, like a man starved. All I could think about was him, him, him . . . his lips, his tongue, his taste, his butterscotch smell. I wanted all of him, and I’d never have him, and that thought made me frantic. I gripped him tighter, pushed my nails deeper, and kissed him harder.
I never wanted to say goodbye.

[Review & Giveaway] Shooting Scars by Karina Halle

Title: Shooting Scars
Published: Aug. 20th, 2013
Author: Karina Halle
Pages: 265
Rating:

From Goodreads:
Sometimes the right choice can be the deadliest.

When Ellie Watt made the ultimate sacrifice for Camden McQueen, she never thought it would be easy. But walking away with her ex-lover, Javier Bernal, in order to ensure Camden’s safety has brought a whole new set of dangers. With Javier’s plans for Ellie growing more secretive by the moment, Ellie must find a way to stay ahead of the game before her past swallows her whole.

Meanwhile, Camden’s new life is short-lived. Fueled by revenge and pursued by authorities, he teams up with an unlikely partner in order to save Ellie. But as Camden toes the line between love and retribution, he realizes that in order to get back the woman he loves, he may have to lose himself in the process. He might just turn into the very man he’s hunting.

Told in dual POV from Camden and Ellie

MY THOUGHTS:

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not influence my review.

This book may contain slight spoilers for Sins & Needles and On Every Street.

I started reading this book thinking that I knew what was going to happen. I was so damn wrong. The Artists Trilogy is ultimately Ellie's story, and I think after reading On Every Street I forgot that. I got all twisted and fell in love with Javier without really thinking about what happened[or who he is beyond sexy]. This is not a love triangle, there is no Team Camden or Team Javier, there is only Team Ellie. Ellie gets to make her own choices, and mistakes, and whether you're in love with Camden or Javier is irrelevant. Ellie's journey is bumpy and full of some serious fucking heartbreak and the masochist in me loves every word of it.

Lately, it seems like I've read a lot of books about damaged girls. Most of them curl up in a ball and cry about it, but not Ellie Watt. Ellie was used by her parents, disfigured by an evil cartel leader, and abandoned. She takes everything life has served her in stride. Sure, she's a criminal, but there's something about her that makes me love her. In this book Ellie is with Javier and shit happens. This is another moment where I thought I knew what Ellie would do, but Karina slapped me back to reality and reminded me that what I thought didn't matter. That's pretty much all I will say.

Side note: Why are male characters redeemable, but female characters aren't? Why are we so quick to love the asshole, cheater, abusive douches of literature but we don't offer the same love to our flawed women? I bet there will be some people who drool over Javier[he's a killer, people] but hate Ellie because she does questionable things. I do not like this double standard. Don't hate Ellie because she isn't perfect, neither are you. *steps off soapbox *

Camden is definitely the most changed of the group. He is determined to find Ellie the moment the car pulls away with her in the back. He is willing to do anything it takes to get her back and he does it without hesitation. I'll admit I didn't give much thought to what he might do to get Ellie back, so I was shocked at the things that happened. Camden McQueen is a changed man, that's for sure.

Javier is pretty much exactly what he seems to be, so stop hoping for some redemption. Javier Bernal is bad man, who does bad things. He kills people, he kidnapped Ellie, and he has plans for her. I got a better idea of who Javier is in this book. In On Every Street Ellie[Eden] is in love with him, and since that book is told through her POV it's very easy to fall for him too. But Ellie is no longer under love's spell and she knows better. Javier is a dangerous[but sexy as hell] man and while Ellie may still have something lingering in her heart, and vagina[let's be real], she knows he's not good.

I was so glad that SS was written in dual POV. A lot of my favorite moments were with Camden and Gus. The ending was one of the best “holy shit” moments for me. Yes, there is somewhat of a cliffhanger but Ellie's story isn't one that can be told within two hundred something pages, and quite frankly I kind of needed a break from the mind fuckery that happened.

This isn't a pretty series all wrapped in pink ribbon, this is a crazy intense story that will probably break me before it's over. Shooting Scars is not an easy read, but it's definitely worth the pain.
