From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
“No
one deserves you like I do.”... “No one sees you like I do.”...
“No one understands you the way I do.” … “No one makes your
heart beat like I do” ... “And no one else deserves to be inside
you if they can't get through here first.”
Gah. This
book. I can't even. First of all, I've LOVED Post secrets forever and
I've loved Colleen Hoover which seems to be forever now. When you
unite the two forces into a masterpiece of art, you are blown away.
Now I know Colleen didn't use any actual Post Secrets, but the
concept and the fact that her own fans gave her the confessions is
truly astonishing. The only thing I wish I was able to see while I
was reading the book was the artwork, which wasn't in the ARC. (total
sad face here) However, once I get my hands on a physical copy I can
read it again with the photo's and get such a different experience
from this novel.
“How
do you retain faith in humanity after reading these every day? “Easy”
I say. “It actually makes me appreciate people more, knowing we all
have this amazing ability to put on a front. Especially to those
closest to us.”
As always,
the characters in Colleen's book are absolutely flawed and flawless
at the same time. The characters of Auburn and Owen were simple yet
complex. I honestly can't say much about this without giving away a
ton of information that would ruin the book for you as a reader, so I
won't. I will say that secrets are crazy, and the emotions and
heartfelt moments that you're about to read will rip your heart out,
sew it back together, and then maybe – if you're lucky... put it
back together again.
“This
is what I want you to remember, Auburn, “I don't want you to
remember what it feels like when I'm inside you. I want you to
remember how it feels when I look at you.” … I want you to
remember how your heart reacts every time I kiss you,” … I want
you to remember my hands, and how they can't stop touching you.”
And I need you to remember that anyone can make love. But I'm the
only one who deserves to make love to you.”
This story
is absolutely beautiful. The ultimate feels you get while reading
this is unfathomable. I mean it IS a Colleen Hoover book. Face it.
Get your tissue box out, put some padding on your kindle or book, and
be prepared. Oh yes, I'm telling you that there will be moments of
pure anger when you either WILL or WANT to throw your reading device
of choice at the wall. Don't do it though... cause then you won't
finish the story! The underlying tones of sarcasm and angsty moments
will leave you with a cocky smile on your face, along with the tear
stained tissues. Do yourself a favor and Fall in love with Owen and
Auburn. You won't regret it.
