Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for better part of the last few years…and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome. But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to Confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt…and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy on the eyes deacon…only eight months away from becoming a priest. As Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.
REVIEW
When I first found out about this book, I couldn’t wait til it released. Being my first read from Lisa Derochers, I was greatly pleased with Lisa’s writing style. I was a little hesitant seeing as how it had to do with religion, as I don’t always like to read about anything with religion in it. I’ve tried it a few times and have been ok, since it wasn’t the main subject. I actually liked the whole idea behind the Priest and his demons though, it was most definitely interesting. Not only was there one forbidden tryst but there was two! I was in my glory. We all know how much I love my personal demons, forbidden trysts, and just straight up screwed up stories. The worse it is, the more I like it. Yep… I’m a sick and twisted individual.
A Little Too Far was an excellent mix of personal sacrifice, angst, lust, romance, drama, humor and heartbreak. The characters were well developed and the imagery was fantastic. Lexie was a basket full of conflicting thoughts, self-loathing, determination and dedication. Throughout the entire story you get to learn about her on a more intimate level, and as a character grew without faults. With two male leads in the story, it was incredibly hard to determine which I liked most. So many things about each Trent and Alessandro will make you fall in love with them over and over. Trent was the best friend, step brother and just a complete sex pot. Alessandro on the other hand, was a priest who was just scrumptious while his personal demons led him to the ministries.
Throughout the story, each character battles with the inner turmoil about doing the “right” thing. Caught between love and lust, it was an entirely messed up situation. I still don’t know how I feel about the whole step-brother situation. I do believe however that the heart wants what it wants. If I were in the same situation, I’m not so sure how I would react and I can understand every reason Lexie did what she did. Sometimes you just don’t know what the “right” thing is. Every situation is different, and requires different rules.
Even with the incredibly sexy trysts and underlying tragic love escapades, I really enjoyed the journey to self-discovery with all the characters. I honestly can’t wait until the second book to see what happens next for certain characters. I will say that this double plot was absolutely stunning and Lisa never faltered in either of the two main love interests. Although there is two men and one woman, this isn’t a love triangle by any means.
I look forward to reading other novels by Lisa Derochers. Definitely an author that should be on everyone’s to-read list, especially if you’re like me! I am for sure adding Lisa to my favorite authors list. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of New Adult, Romance, and anyone who loves a “forbidden fruit” type story.
