Before he can even start to figure out his new life without Arianna, Devin has to deal with another problem. He needs to take care of some unfinished business with a night human he has known for less than a month, but with whom he is magically bound.
Vanessa McKinny has promised that she knows a way to undo the spell she placed on Devin to save his life. Devin would do anything to break the bond to be free of her, even if it means traveling to the sidhe village, a place inhabited by a race of night humans that has not had a day human visitor in more than a hundred years. If he doesn’t want to get stuck, he must work with Nessa to find a way to break the bond. Only then can Devin have time to get back to finding his new goal in life, unless he discovers that his path lies with the sidhe.
B. Kristin McMichael never ceases to blow my mind. There is
just so many amazing things that I can say about this author. Every one of her
stories captures me, devours me, and then I refuse to let the story leave me. I
have to say that this is one of my all-time favorite authors. I’m so mad at myself for waiting so long to read
this story! I ADORED the Blue Eyes Trilogy. The imagination and raw talent in
the purest form that B. Kristin McMichael brings to her novels is simply astonishing.
I do have to say though, seeing as how I waited so long to read this novel, I
get to delve right into The Day Human King!
If you haven’t read The Blue Eyes Trilogy, I recommend that
you read that series first, and then this one. If you read this series before-hand
you might just give yourself a little bit of a spoiler, since this technically
picks up after the Blue Eyes trilogy ends. I’m not a big fan of spoilers, at
all… actually. Therefore I wanted to warn you before you pick up this book
(which you TOTALLY NEED TO DO!)!
I’m so excited that Devin was able to have a story of his
own. I absolutely fell in love with him and his ways in the Blue Eyes Trilogy.
The dedication and loyalty that he held for the ones he loves is out of this
world. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to be a “day human” in a “night
human” world, but Devin has always held his own, and is highly respected among the night humans, because of his
training and raw talents. Knowing that
Devin lives out his own legacy, gives me so much more closure to the Blue Eyes
Trilogy. However, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Nessa. The
previous notion that I had of Nessa was that she was different than she appears
to be in this novel. Again – no spoilers… I’ll let you form your own opinion of
Nessa. I did grow to love her, because of this novel. The sass and the absolute angsty tension
between Devin and Nessa not only had me giggling, but also dying to see a happy
ending for the two of them.
The utter uniqueness of this story is brilliant. The
attention to detail and the imagery is stunning. The author brings back moments
from the trilogy to help you remember the reasons for which things are
happening the way that they are now. I highly recommend this series, along with
reading The Blue Eyes Trilogy first. And then, when you’re done with that you
can intertwine yourself with Seth and Mari from Carnelian, Book 1 in the Chalcedony
series.
Originally from Wisconsin, B. Kristin currently resides in Ohio with her husband, two small children, and three cats. When not doing the mom thing of chasing kids, baking cookies, and playing outside, she is using her PhD in biology as a scientist. In her free time she is currently hard at work on multiple novels. Every day is a new writing adventure. She is a fan of all YA/NA fantasy and science fiction.
