[Review] Out of The Wreckage

Out of the Wreckage (Second Chance Series, #2)

After working hard to pick up the pieces of their broken childhoods, Miranda and Jason have what they’ve always wanted: a true and honest love.
But even true love shatters if you treat it wrong.
When a rich and successful fling from Miranda’s past shows up and takes an interest in her, Jason begins to question his own worth.
He never doubted their love, but he wants Miranda to have the best life possible. The life she deserves.
And maybe he isn’t the one to give it to her.
When doubt and betrayal set in, Jason and Miranda must fight for their love in the wreckage…before it is destroyed forever.

Wow.  I can’t even begin to say how amazing this book was. Talk about the perfect follow up to a novel. I am so completely satisfied with everything that happened in this story that I’m not even sure how to process. It’s been quite a while since I’ve read a book, let alone wrote a review for one, and I’m definitely feeling how much I have lost touch with my love of literacy for far too long. I’d like to give a big thank you to CeeCee James for reawakening the love that I thought I’d lost. CeeCee you are truly an outstanding author and it has and will continue to be an honor to read the stories that you write.

This story represents sacrifice and what it means in a relationship.  Ms. James will pull on your heart strings and never let go.  I cried, laughed, got angry, and squealed with happiness several times while reading this. As I write this review there are so many things that I want to splurge out and tell you how I really feel about them, but I can’t. I can’t ruin this story for anyone.  Although this has probably one of the best happily ever after (for now, maybe) I’ve ever read.

Out of The Wreckage completely topped the first book in my eyes. Getting to learn more about the characters and delving further into their lives in a way that makes you feel as if you’re living in the story with them.  Jason and Miranda are one of my all-time favorite character couples. The love, honor, trust, and connection that the two have are simply irrevocable.  The growth of a person is such an important part of life, either you adapt to your surroundings or you don’t.  In this novel you get to see the evolution of Jason, as well as Miranda. The journey that you take with Jason in this novel is unbelievable. You get to see firsthand how each decision made effects both partners of the relationship, as it is told in a dual POV.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much this book AND Ms. James have made me want to do something more. The ultimate compassion that is shown from these characters to people in need really makes you think about if you’re doing enough for other people.
Ms. James did write this series so that they may be read as standalones, however I highly recommend reading the first novel before reading this so as you get the back story.  That being said I can’t wait to dive into the 3rd book tonight!

Other books in this series:
Book 1                                   Book 3

CeeCee JamesCeeCee James is a wife, mom, owner of two mini-dashchunds, writer, and watercolor artist.

Her fictional series, Wrecked and Yours, is about love, secrets and navigating life. It's romantic, uncertain and messy, like life often is. It's describes their season to make a choice, "look at life honestly and deal with it, or continue to run away." CeeCee absolutely loved writing it, and hopes it resonates with you because everyone has an important story of what they've overcome.

[Review] The Day Human King

The Day Human King (Day Human, #2)After he assumed the power of the late sidhe king, Devin thought the battle to protect Nessa and proceed with her coronation was over. Everyone feared him and he had the power to do anything in the sidhe world. He was wrong. As problem after problem arises, Nessa finds the path to the throne is not as simple as they thought. Formalities must be adhered to, preparations must be made, and between all of that, Devin and Nessa must decide what to do with an obviously pregnant Fiona, who will not name the father of her child. To make matters worse, the elite sidhe are still assassinating each other. No one in the palace is safe. Who is behind the latest deaths, and can the coronation actual occur with all the drama going on? Devin and Nessa’s road to power might be cut short if they can’t find the answers.

I can’t even deal. I don’t even know where to begin. I could tell you again how much I adore BKM, but I feel I’ll be a little repetitive and oh how I hate repetition! However, once again – I’m in awe of this author’s talent. The passion and love that goes into each novel is clearly visible to the readers.  I’ve probably said this before, but BKM is probably one of the authors that I’ve been so eagerly awaiting to meet. Let me tell you, if this author has an event (that I can attend, of course) I’ll be the first in line! I just want to hug you B. Kristin, along with the amazing team behind you!!

The Day Human King is the 2nd installment in the Day Human series. For whatever reasons, I took forever to finally start to read the first novel, which I obviously devoured. By the time I got through the first book I was immediately able to delve into this novel, which made me extremely happy. Reading about the continuation of Devin’s story was just incredible. The Day Human series has to be one of THE best spinoff series I’ve ever read. Maybe I’m a little biased towards this since I absolutely loved the characters in The Blue Eyes trilogy.

When I first started to read this I had quite a few expectations. I know I should never go into a book with such high expectations, but BKM has never let me down as a reader before and still hasn’t.  Every possible hope I had for this novel was superseded. Devin and Nessa’s story gives me hardcore feels. There were times in this novel that I felt SO much that I thought my heart would beat out of my chest. The anxiety I felt when the characters were put into situations that were life altering, the happiness I felt when things fell into place, and the sadness I felt when everything seemed to be falling apart.

I sincerely hope that you take the chance to read this series, because it’s incredibly worth it. I honestly can NOT wait until book 3 arrives so that I may know the fate of Devin and Nessa. The unexpected twist at the end of this book shocked me to my core, and left me asking so many questions that can’t be answered yet.  I NEED the 3rd book NOW!! I’m so excited to read The Day Human Way.

**The utter uniqueness of this story is brilliant. The attention to detail and the imagery is stunning. The author brings back moments from the trilogy to help you remember the reasons for which things are happening the way that they are now. I highly recommend this series, along with reading The Blue Eyes Trilogy first. And then, when you’re done with that you can intertwine yourself with Seth and Mari from Carnelian, Book 1 in the Chalcedony series.

[Review] The Day Human Prince

The Day Human Prince (Day Human, #1) Devin Alexander grew up as the only day human in a world surrounded by night humans who drank blood, sometimes his blood. He spent his life training toward one goal: the protection of one of those blood drinkers, Arianna Grace. But what is he supposed to do when the blue-eyed girl of the legends doesn’t need him anymore? What does his life mean then? How is a guy supposed to move on when the girl he has yearned over for a decade has chosen someone else?

Before he can even start to figure out his new life without Arianna, Devin has to deal with another problem. He needs to take care of some unfinished business with a night human he has known for less than a month, but with whom he is magically bound.

Vanessa McKinny has promised that she knows a way to undo the spell she placed on Devin to save his life. Devin would do anything to break the bond to be free of her, even if it means traveling to the sidhe village, a place inhabited by a race of night humans that has not had a day human visitor in more than a hundred years. If he doesn’t want to get stuck, he must work with Nessa to find a way to break the bond. Only then can Devin have time to get back to finding his new goal in life, unless he discovers that his path lies with the sidhe.

B. Kristin McMichael never ceases to blow my mind. There is just so many amazing things that I can say about this author. Every one of her stories captures me, devours me, and then I refuse to let the story leave me. I have to say that this is one of my all-time favorite authors.  I’m so mad at myself for waiting so long to read this story! I ADORED the Blue Eyes Trilogy. The imagination and raw talent in the purest form that B. Kristin McMichael brings to her novels is simply astonishing. I do have to say though, seeing as how I waited so long to read this novel, I get to delve right into The Day Human King!

If you haven’t read The Blue Eyes Trilogy, I recommend that you read that series first, and then this one. If you read this series before-hand you might just give yourself a little bit of a spoiler, since this technically picks up after the Blue Eyes trilogy ends. I’m not a big fan of spoilers, at all… actually. Therefore I wanted to warn you before you pick up this book (which you TOTALLY NEED TO DO!)!

I’m so excited that Devin was able to have a story of his own. I absolutely fell in love with him and his ways in the Blue Eyes Trilogy. The dedication and loyalty that he held for the ones he loves is out of this world. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to be a “day human” in a “night human” world, but Devin has always held his own, and is highly respected  among the night humans, because of his training and raw talents.  Knowing that Devin lives out his own legacy, gives me so much more closure to the Blue Eyes Trilogy. However, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Nessa. The previous notion that I had of Nessa was that she was different than she appears to be in this novel. Again – no spoilers… I’ll let you form your own opinion of Nessa. I did grow to love her, because of this novel.  The sass and the absolute angsty tension between Devin and Nessa not only had me giggling, but also dying to see a happy ending for the two of them.

The utter uniqueness of this story is brilliant.

[Review] Carnelian

Carnelian (Chalcedony Chronicles, #1)
I LOVEEEEE this cover!!!!!!

Everyone has a past, but for most it isn’t as long ago as Seth Sangre. His past is literally thousands of years ago. Seth’s life led him to the present seeking something that might help him save his country from destruction. He has been in the present for over three years now and just found exactly what he has been looking for.

Mari had dreams that college will be a fresh start, one where she would start over and not fall for the good looking player like high school. Unfortunately for her, that’s exactly what ends up falling into her lap on the first day she moves into the dorms. Now she has to hold to her promise to herself and not fall for the handsome Seth. But he doesn’t plan to make it easy for her. Seth has already marked her as his next conquest. As the semester progresses, Mari learns that Seth might just have a life of his own that’s actually from the past. Suddenly Mari finds her future along with her past put into question. She’s connected to Seth far more than she ever wanted to be and maybe the player isn’t who she thought he was. If Mari can trust her heart enough to follow him, Seth will lead Mari on an adventure of a lifetime and reveal family secrets she never knew existed.

“If I took you back, I’d be condemning you to that life. You deserve more.”
“Seth, a life with you’d be all I needed. The rest I can deal with then. I’m tougher than I look.”
“And more delicate than you’ll ever admit”

I’d just like to profess my undying love for B. Kristin McMichael. I love love love love your words, your stories, and your absolute kindness. Seriously, B. Kristin is just a permanent staple of my book life. I’ve read each of her works, and loved every single one of them. I get so excited when I find out she’s releasing a new book that I literally jump up and down squee’ing. Now I love a lot of authors, because their words can change my world, but B. Kristin has something really special. I hope to be able to keep telling her this as she continues to write, because as long as she is writing, I will be reading. I have to admit, not too many YA authors can hold my interest anymore. It’s not their fault either, but B. Kristin is an author that will stand out in my mind forever.  Never will I hesitate to read a work of art from her.

Carnelian is more of a New Adult book rather than a YA book. The main characters of Seth and Mari are on a journey to a maximum collision with both their worlds.  Mari went to college hoping to start over.  Mari does pretty well on her own until she catches the eye of Seth. Mari has heard stories of Seth’s conquests but can’t help but be attracted to the obnoxiously exotic superstar football player.  Mari makes it very clear that she will not become his next conquest when Seth practically claims her as his. The story progresses into a beautiful and dynamic love story that was literally meant to be.

Mari is the epitome of beauty, even though she doesn’t see it for herself.  She is strong, intelligent, and skeptical. This stunning red head turns heads everywhere she goes and even catches the hatred from the “popular” crowd at the college.  Mari actually becomes friends with Seth’s brother Ty, who she tries to get to save her from his brother Seth’s conquests. To no avail will Seth stop. Seth is determined that he has found the one reason that he was brought into this world… and it’s Mari. Seth has the charm, looks, and soul to make anyone swoon. I absolutely loved the characters and the growth of them. Ty and Sim (Mari’s room-mate and best friend) are the most adorable secondary characters and are amazingly supporting tributes to the story.

Carnelian will keep you wanting more from the beginning to the end. I could not put this down, you simply get entranced and brought into this world that you just don’t want to be released from.  I’m not a big fan of time-travel novels, since I’ll admit it… I tend to get confused. In no way was I ever confused with this novel, and it honestly didn’t even real feel all that “time-travelery”.  For most of the story you’re in the here and now, but get short throw backs of historic times. The destiny of the two main characters is absolutely enchanting.

One again, B. Kristin McMichael has created a masterpiece. I’m always left feeling refreshed from the everyday normal reads. With Carnelian you’re left wanting more, but you’re satisfied with where it leaves off. I absolutely can’t wait until the next installment of this series, and hope it comes sooner than later! I could go on and on bout how much I loved this book, but I really think you should just get to reading it!
As always, B. Kristin – I adore you. Your words are spectacular and always leave me speechless.
